Autotest Training Day at Knockhill on Sat 17th of September

Autotest Training Day at Knockhill on Sat 17th of September

Always wanted to try motorsport but thought it was too expensive?  Try Autotesting!  It’s fun, cheap, and you can use your own car!

Come along to Knockhill, join GMSC, and participate in grassroots motorsport.

INTRODUCTION TO AUTOTESTING

Organised by Glenrothes Motor Sport Club Ltd in conjunction with GoMotorsport

All new entrants to motorsport require a proper introduction to thebranch of motorsport they are particularly interested in.  This will clearly illustrate what will be involved, and how they can proceed to enter their chosen motorsport discipline.

If you would like to consider Autotesting, GLENROTHES MOTOR SPORT CLUB has developed an introductory programme to provide information about this type of motorsport.   This also gives practical training in driving techniques, in order to give newcomers the ability to experience the enjoyment of competitive events.

GMSC has a car available for prospective participants to use for their initial induction and training, without having to use their own vehicle.  Having had this initial driving experience in the club car, we are sure most will then have the confidence to use their own vehicle.

The first introductory event will take place at Knockhill Racing Circuit on Saturday 17th September, where GMSC has access to one of the large paddock areas, depending on the level of interest.

The cost of the training day will be just £15.00, and for this participants will receive:

  • One year’s membership of Glenrothes Motor Sport Club
  • Practical training in driving skills by an experienced Autotest driver
  • Participation as a driver in an entry-level Autotest where newly-found skills can be put to use
  • The club car will be available but attendees will also be able to use their own vehicles

If you would like to take part, fill in an application form now and hand it in at the GMSC/GoMotorsport stand.

Autosolo Challenge on Sunday 21 August 2016

On Sunday 21 August 2016 the Scottish Sporting Car Club will be organising the third (and final) round of the Scottish Association of Car Clubs’ Autosolo Challenge 2016, a series of Autosolos sponsored by Craig Moncrieff Cars.  The event will be held at the premises of Irvine Bay Events, Ardeer and Supplementary Regulations and an electronic entry form are attached.

Please note that this event is only for Autosolo cars (ie cars that are taxed, insured and, if appropriate, MoT’d).  However the good news is that anything capable of being driven legally on the public highway is eligible – previous entries have included a Smart car and various other unlikely vehicles.  Also the tests will be more open and flowing than our normal autotest-based layouts (and hence far more car friendly) so if you fancy a bit of fun in your road car, now’s your chance.

To enter this event:

EITHER print the entry form which forms the second part of the attached Regulations document and post it with a cheque for your entry fee to the address on the form;

OR download the electronic entry form (the second of the attached documents) and follow the instructions given at the head of that form for submitting an entry and paying the entry fee electronically.

First Round of the SACC Knockhill Autosolo

Glenrothes Motor Sport Club ran the first round of the SACC Autosolo series at Knockhill on Sunday 20th March, attracting a very encouraging entry of 25. 23 cars started the event.

There was a wide selection of cars competing including a classic Mini, a Smart Car, a Clan Crusader, a MG Midget, a BMW 323, a Seat Ibiza, a Fiesta ST, Ford Focus, VW Golf VR6, Caterham Roadster, a selection of Lotus Elise and Exige, a handful of Maxda Mx5's and last but not least a Skoda Superb.

Class 1 was very hotly contested and David Finlay's Seat emerged the victor by only 2 seconds from Jim Wilson's Mini after nearly 8 minutes of competition.

Grainger Robertson in the Fiesta was the clear winner in class 3 from the surprising Skoda of Paul Hughes and the 3 wheeling Golf of Gavin Alexander, James Wilson found that having a welded diff in a BMW is a bit of a handful.

The largest entry was in class 4 and Michael Scibber as in his 280bhp Lotus was closely matching times with Ryan Gardiner in his Turbocharged Mazda MX5 until Ryan clipped a cone finishing second by 3.3 seconds.

Archie Simmonds in his MG was trying everything he could to catch the more modern sports cars but needed a few more horses under the bonnet. Scott Clements did a great job entertaining the crowds with his power slides and astronomical revs in his Clan.

Within class 4 the times between the Mazdas and the Lotuses were very evenly matched and all the drivers enjoyed the friendly rivalry.

Thanks to everyone's efforts the event was a great success and an encouraging start to the series.

What the event did prove was that you can enjoy grass roots motorsport in your road car at very little expense and no damage to the car, Michael Scibberas took fastest time of the day in his first ever motorsport event, in fact 75% of the entry had never competed before, and going by the feedback on the day this won't be their last.

Just a reminder that the Andy Wilson Memorial Autotest is being held on Sun. April 10th at Knockhill the event has a conventional Autotest for the main trophy, a PCA where you must carry a passenger and an all forward Autotest, regs and entry form can be found on the SACC website or the Glenrothes website.
